House
Squire / Isham / Alfred / John
This is an excerpt from the Sampson County Wills Abstract showing that John House gave his son William House the following negro slaves in his will dated 1849.
What drew me to the surname of "House" was Rosie McPhail. When I interviewed her in 1984, she stated that her grandfather was John McPhail, but he had several brothers with different last names of House and Warren. Squire, Isham and Alfred were mention as John's brothers.
A Betsey Cole age about 100 years old had Isham House recorded on her death certificate.
Estate records for William House show he was the slave owner of Squire House.
Alexander McLamb's son Isaac married Annie Surles the daughter of Squire House and her death certificate has Squire House recorded as her father.
Sylvia McNeil death certificate had Squire House recorded as her father also.
