In Search of You is a web site to share information found researching my family ancestry line and collect additional information from YOU.
I am Linda McLamb Owens a professional genealogist and family historian “In Search of You.” I am the author of The Genealogy of McLamb Family History of African Descent and contributed three family history stories in The Heritage of Sampson County, North Carolina, Volume II. I am a family history lecturer at family reunions and other events. I use available records on-line and visit repositories but found interviewing those over 80 years in the family, people in the community, churches, former military, funeral home staff very beneficial. I collect old obituaries and visit cemeteries that include a weatlh of information. I also seek out family Bibles of deceased elders.
I have been researching my family since 1982. Many road blocks got in the way. I started intereviewing older relatives in 1984. What happened to some of my ancestors are mysteries I am trying to solve by initiating this In Search of You website.
After many years of searching for you, the McLamb Family History has been published ina book and Volume I is now available. For more information on the book e-mail lmowens@nc.rr.com
In Search of Schools
In my in search of you, ancestors have shared the schools they attended as a child before integration and before school buses.
I am having very little luck finding Point Level School listed in Sampson County History. I have been told by too many people that the school they attend as a child on Wyre Branch Road in the Herring Township was named Point Level School. One person interviewed said the school name was Pinehurst. He first said it was Point Level then he corrected it several hours later after thinking about it and said the school name was Pinehurst.
A school named Pinehurst is listed in the Herring Township, but not Point Level. I have combed through the minutes of Sampson County Board of Education Minutes as early as 1887 and have found no mention of a school called Point Level.
Any information on Point Level School is welcomed.
The only place I found Point Level Grade School listed is in the book Images of America Sampson County on page 54. The picture below was taken Friday, January 20, 2012. As you can see the structure is standing, how long depends on the elements. The school was located on Wyre Branch Road in Sampson County.
It was torn down by new landowners May 2020. My last trip by the site of the old school showed a pile of debris and the steps that were never attached to the old school. My brother remembers when they delivered these stepts. He said they were too heavy to attach to the building and just left where they laid.
In Search of you found in the pages of a family Bible.
A page from the Bible of Inez Days Ross is full of her immediate family history. Some of the information would not be known if she had not taken the time to record it in her Bible. This Bible is in the possession of Wayne Surles.
